Course Name City and Guilds 3466-04 Data Communications Cable Installation and Testing (Copper)

 

Course Description

On completion of the course the student will be able to:

Understand basic electrical theory and safety

·  Be aware of electrical safety

·  Use and maintain common hand tools

·  Use and maintain common electrical tools

·  Know how to measure electrical voltage, current and resistance

·  Use theoretical knowledge during cable installation

·  Understand the requirements of European and international cabling standards

Install copper communication cabling

·  Carry out a site survey prior to the commencement of work

·  Check cable and components before installation

·  Follow the correct cable laying procedure for the type of cable being installed

·  Demonstrate the ability to test the laid cable prior to termination

Terminate copper communication cabling

·  Identify connector requirements before termination

·  Use the correct tooling for the connector to be terminated

·  Mount connectors correctly into racks, panel and wall assemblies

·  Terminate the connector as per the manufacturers recommendations

Test copper communications permanent links

·  Undertake the testing of different types of copper cables

·  Show understanding of the operation and correct use of copper cable and test equipment

·  Demonstrate the ability to correctly label and document installed cables

 

Prerequisites The 3466-04 (copper) course is best suited to individuals wishing to enter, or already working in the Data Communication industry in the areas of copper cable installation and testing.
